Does This Make Me a Twit? My Quest to Learn Twitter – and its PR Value – Begins; 140 Characters a Tweet

TweetyContinuing the theme that in order to learn and gain value from social media one must first participate, today marks Day Five of my experience with Twitter. I have two goals – one, to learn about Twitter by actually experiencing it (what a concept!), and to view Twitter through the eyes of a PR professional with the hopes of passing along some nuggets of wisdom via the PR Buzzsaw blog.

Yes, I was like other non-Twitterers last week: who has time for this and who cares where I had lunch (or what I ordered)?

My first task was to find people to follow and encourage others to follow me, so my Tweets would not enter a giant echo chamber. In just one week I’m pleased to report more than 10 followers, including social media luminaries and bloggers such as Robert Scoble and Geoff Livingston, an upcoming D.C. bloggers’ conference as well as other other professional acquaintances.Twitter Box

I already “get it” and see many possibilities from a PR perspective which I’ll share in future posts. For now I’ll share two great posts on the value of Twitter, this one from Jared Goralnick on “where to find Twitter value” and “The 10 ways I learned to use Twitter in 2007″ by Dan York. And here’s something cool I came across today – Tweetscan – a search engine for Twitter posts.

So, if you want to tag along and become one of JeffDavisPR’s contactjeff’s followers, sign up here (it’s free!) and click on this link to my feeds and we’re off and Twittering. Stay tuned for more.
